Playing doctor

Kingsley’s latest favorite pretend play (to no surprise – still involves her babies) is playing doctor.

She sets up beds (made out of blocks) for each of her babies (and sometimes her stuffed animals), and then checks each of them (and their injuries) out.

There’s a waiting line where each of the patients sits and waits for their turn (on one couch), and a well line (where the finished patients wait to be picked up).

She takes her job very seriously.  And it’s seriously cute.

Happy First Day of Fall

Each season seems to come at exactly the right time.  Just when you’re done with the previous season’s activities, the next one comes around.

This season is no different.

We LOVED this summer – our last before the official start to “real school”.  Lazy mornings.  Afternoons filled with swimming and playing.  And plenty of beach vacations.

But now we’re THRILLED that fall has arrived.  Offering the changing of leaves.  Our annual trip to Blowing Rock.  Birthdays.  Pumpkins (and all pumkin-ish foods and drinks…muffins, bread, lattes…).  Boots.  Sweaters.  Halloween.  Thanksgiving.  Ok.  Ok.  The list goes on.

But it starts at…setting out our decorations.

The kids LOVE helping set everything up, although they always wish there were more.

(As a sidenote ~ Love how Jack keeps such a beautiful smile while that  is going on next to him.  Just.  too.  funny.)

and so much more (that wasn’t captured on film)…

Practice at the driving range.

Swinging on the swings.

Cupcake runs.

Pizza dinner.

Lunch at Latin (wish I could have been a fly on the wall for that one).

Night-time book reading.

The kids LOVE their Mimi and Papa.  And it’s no wonder.

In their words

Jack:
After forgetting his lunch bag at school...
"But last night in my prayers I asked God to help me not forget stuff.  Why didn't he listen?"

Kingsley:
At pickup from school...
"I told Ava I live in Carolina, and she said she lives in Carolina too.  Now she knows where I live!  We live in the same neighborhood!!"

Lemonade, lemonade…sells for fifty cents!

Over the last week or so, the boys had been talking more and more in the car about having a lemonade stand.

I could hear them chatting in the third row about selling lemonade.  Making money.  Sharing.

So this weekend, it was a no brainer.

We started with the preparations.  Of which there were many.

The sign.  Painted with chalkboard paint…

Aston got the honors of writing on the sign.  We decided 50 cents was reasonable.

Jack got to write on the sign that would then be attached to the table.

We set up shop, and of course the taste testing began!

They jumped around and cheered every time a car drove by.

It was hard watching cars just drive by at first.

The boys couldn’t understand why the people were smiling and waving, but not stopping.

But quickly their faces of disappointment turned into pure joy, as they got into an absolute roll!

We sold four jugs of lemonade, and then the kids were spent.  But still had energy to count their money!

I divied up the $42 (yes. 42.) into envelopes, and then everyone put their money in their piggy banks.  Or wallets.
